Our Cause
Retinitis Pigmentosa is a genetic disorder that causes a progressive loss of vision. It affects millions of people worldwide and can lead to complete blindness. The DaMyri Stepter Foundation, Inc. was established to help find a cure for this condition and improve the lives of those affected by it. Our goal is to increase awareness of Retinitis Pigmentosa and raise funds to support research and development of treatments.

No Cure Yet: But many charitable organizations are actively working to find one
Age 40: Often diagnosed in childhood or adolescence, RP is an inherited retinal disease causing progressive loss of night and peripheral vision. Many people with RP are legally blind by age 40, with a central visual field of less than 20 degrees in diameter.

Our Story
On June 25, 2015, my son DaMyri was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare disease that has gradually taken his sight.

On June 25, 2015, my son DaMyri was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare disease that has gradually taken his sight.
Now 19, though unable to distinguish faces, he continues to see the world through determination and faith. A sophomore at Nicholls State University, DaMyri made the President's List both semesters of his freshman year - a testament that ability is not defined by vision, but by opportunity
The DaMyri Stepter Foundation, established in 2021, exists to extend that opportunity to others living with blindness or visual impairments. Our Mission is simple: to bring light, hope, and opportunity to those navigating vision loss.
The ultimate goal of the DaMyri Stepter Foundation is to establish a local center for the blind, reducing the need for families to travel for essential services.
